Touch a Heart

Complimentary Massage Day: 10 December 2009

‘Touch a Heart’ is a unique volunteer project originally initiated by Beata Aleksandrowicz, massage therapist and co-founder of Pure Massage.

We would like to continue her work and invite you to be part of this year’s Massage Day taking place on Thursday, 10 December 2009.

‘Touch a Heart’ gives us the chance to reach out to our senior citizens and let them know that we appreciate and care about them by offering the gift of touch.

The Massage Day is running in any nursing homes, hospices, lunch clubs and anywhere else where the elderly can benefit from your gentle, healing touch. If you are a qualified massage therapist and would like to donate your time to offer free massages please register! If you are unable to massage on the day, please do still take part and give treatments on a day as close as possible to 10 December, which is more practical for you.

We welcome students doing their massage courses to participate in this event providing that they are student’ members to different professional therapist associations and they are insured!

Let's unite and make a positive difference.

Let's show our elderly that we truly care.

What we ask for

  • find your local elderly centre
  • register for the event
  • read the agreement and abide by the Code of Ethics, Conduct and Practice for Massage Therapists
  • give at least five massages of 15min for each elderly at your elderly centre
  • send us your feedback after the event day

If you would like to support our event, make suggestions or have questions, please contact us at info@touch-a-heart.org. We are happy to hear from you!

Testimonials

It took him to a whole other world. Could have gone on all day. Love to have it again, will look forward to it.

I was amazed by how just 15 mins of massage can seem like such a lovely thing. It was really nice to be asked if I’d be coming back to do more massage.

Want to help?

1. Contact your local centre

  • telephone your elderly centre and talk to the manager about the project
  • present your qualifications and insurance!
  • offer more information by printing our LEAFLET and offer it to the care home
  • present the possibility of regular treatments if you wish

2. Register

You can use this page to register for the event.

3. Suggestions for the massage

Every treatment should last 15 minutes and you should be able to give at least three massages that day.

We suggest that because of the very specific conditions of giving massages to sometimes very old and seriously ill people, you will give seated or lying down massages, fully clothed including face, hands and feet massage.

4. Make yourself heard

You can use this form to give us some feedback about your experience at the Massage Day.
